Further information
Known by all as the "capital of the trulli", Alberobello actually offers an extraordinary spectacle, one of a kind: a village of stone cones that extends in height retracing the streets that wind through the town.
The trulli are typical houses of the Valle d'Itria area, and are found almost everywhere in the area.
In the past they were a poor construction, in the farms they housed the farmer and the stables, but over time they acquired the value they deserve, becoming the symbol of a land and a people linked to stone and tradition.
Moreover, the master builders of trulli are increasingly rare and more and more abandoned sites are transformed into enchanting B & B and places to welcome tourists, showing a typical cross-section of our history.
However, as you may have guessed from the description, the trulli are mainly humble houses, located in the countryside.
Alberobello shows its peculiarity precisely in this: the white houses with low roofs in the area of Fasano, Ostuni and Cisternino, and the high and sloping cummerse of the village of Locorotondo, here give way to clusters of trulli in the town center. , among all dominating the Trullo Sovrano which, as the name suggests, is the most imposing of all, articulated on two floors.
To understand the peculiarity of these buildings, nothing can help more than a walk in the center.
Your tour leader will leave you an hour to visit the streets of the village freely, giving you some tips on the most unmissable areas, and will give you a meeting time to continue the excursion
Leaving Alberobello behind, in fact, from the hinterland you move to the panoramic view of the Pirro Canal, a path that overlooks the depression of Fasano, Savelletri, Torre Canne and Pezze di Greco, with a view of the sea on the horizon. The excursion stops for a tasting stop of Apulian baked focaccia and typical products in the masseria, and then continues, on the way back, back to Locorotondo.
